So! Here I am flying what was supposed to be the last passenger white wings 777-200er before they converted them into cargo planes! It was a very exciting day for me! I was looking forward to this flight all day! With the rest of the employes waiting on the ground at Honolulu for my arrival I push back from Hilo Hawaii! My route was HTO-HNL! I pushback with a half full plane and a full cargo hold! Finally I turn onto the runway for what was supposed to be the last time this plane takes off as a passenger plane! Around 150 knots the plane somehow makes a sharp turn to the right on the runway, almost skidding off! I manage the situation as well as possible, not knowing the damage of the plane! I know that the plane probably isn't safe for the rest of the flight so I tell my passengers that I'm going to make a left traffic for the runway and land back in Hilo. I then explain the sitiuation. I make a left downwind for runway 26 at hilo's airport at around 3,000 feet. I turn base at 1,500 feet and land safely back on hilo's runway 26! WOW! I had trained for this but never had something like this happen! The passengers later boarded a 767 about an hour later for a flight to Honolulu. The eymployees were a little let down that the plane never made it to Honolulu but were thankful for my actions up on the flight deck! Better to be safe than sorry! It was a scary but fun experience! Safe flying and happy landings to all!
